Is my Paj days over?
Good morning to all Paj fans. I’m most certainly am one.

After a hard expedition through Transkei, after getting home I have decided to retire by beloved ShortBoy 3.8 2006.

Why? He’s just too thirsty and my wife has finally said it’s time for something that does not roar like a pack of lions at the sight of a approaching incline. We tow a Conqueror Commander on all our travels.

So our choices are between a Paj Sport, Isuzu Mu X, Toyota Fortuner and a Ford Everest.

I’d be grateful for some advice.

You can't really go wrong with any of those.
Questions to ask are (in no particular order):
How do you rate the various local dealers?
Do you think Mitsu will offer proper support?
Is the Ford 3.2 motor really problematic and are they really down-tuned to protect a wonky turbo?
Is the 72 hour speed/reliability record set by the 300 D-Max worth the old school harshness of that engine (not to mention lowest power output on your list).
Is the Fortuner gearbox really as bad as some say? Do they really have a rust problem? Is your family in high-jack danger in one?
Do you need difflock? Your Pajero didn't leave the factory with one.
Do you like the option of a centre diff? The Fortuner and the Isuzu don't offer that. I am currently driving a car that doesn't have that option, and I think it is a big deal.

If you are buying new, my biased choice is the Pajero Sport 4x4. It's towing capacity is 2790kg (braked, MY2018). No sure if that is adequate to tow your Conqueror Commander. Otherwise, replace your shorty with another, the 140kw DiDc.

Yes, why not look at a diesel Paj Gen4?

Else I would go for the Isuzu or the Paj Sport

Only one can be driven in 4X4 on tar roads, which may be very useful when towing a caravan in the rain - The Pajero Sport. The Mits 4 wheel drive system has no equals, its simply the best.

Already fitted.
The centre diff and the rear diff can be locked.
