I posted a query "CAR STARTS NORMALLY THEN CUTS OUT" a couple of weeks ago and have eventually solved the problem. It transpired that this problem only started after the Pajero's last service, where all filters were replaced including the fuel filter. The Mits dealers advised me to replace the SCV on the diesel pump which would hopefully sort the problem? I was told that they could not identify the problem on there diagnostic computer as it was an intermittent problem and hopefully replacing the SCV would work, if not there were other options. In other words all guess work and a matter of elimination.
I then called another party who works on Pajeros' and discussed the problem with him. He suggested I replace the fuel filter which I duly did and this has solved the problem! So the problem was a faulty fuel filter and a cheap fix as I changed it myself!
That's good to hear!
May I ask who you spoke to over the phone?

You are lucky it was only the fuel filter. My Pajero would start, run normally and randomly starve and then cut out. Replaced fuel filter and still no improvement. I eventually had to have the fuel pump reconditioned, which proved to be a very expensive experience.
