Pajero Sport 3.2 D-ID
I am a re-born Pajero guy, which means that unfortunately I had to take leave of my Pajero LWB D-ID 2008 as I discovered some serious , very costly and potentially dangerous shortcomings which I dont want to detail here (front suspension)...just to say that these things were not noticable at all during the time I had the pleasure of driving because the vehicle drove like a dream.
As it happened I could not find a suitable replacement in LWB and diesel form in my price range and decided to change over to a 2010 Pajero Sport 3.2 with 106.000 km on the clock..
I am unable to keep my fingers away from Pajero......
I am very happy with the vehicle and I made sure that everything was tip top mechanically wise.
Obviously the Sport is not like the big brother in many respects (suspension , appointments and also in interior space).
I just would be eager to know how many other "Sports" are on this forum and how they feel about the vehicle and which calamities-if any-they might have experienced.
Re: Pajero Sport 3.2 D-ID
Welcome / there is a dedicated Pajero sport thread - it would be worthwhile reading through it and understanding what a capable vehicle u have

Hi Michael
Thanks for the tip....found it.
Re: Pajero Sport 3.2 D-ID
I see you have 106k just ensure your timing chain/ belt (think the 3.2 has a chain) have been done - should be at 90k. It’s an expensive exercise.

Re: Pajero Sport 3.2 D-ID
According to the Mitsubishi Service Booklet (Periodic Inspection Service) , the engine timing belts need to be replaced every 100.000km with the appendix: "except vehicles with timing chain".
Nowhere in the "service book" do I find any reference to the replacement of the timing chain.
I know that the chain runs past a sort of "Plastic" guide on top and the plastic guide might be chafed away resulting in the chain jumping one or two teeth ending in engine fatality.
I understand that it would be worthwhile to inspect the said chain guide for "damage" which I intend to do quite soon.

I have the 2.5 so is belt driven and is scheduled at 90k - not so clued up on the 3.2 chain. Have a look on the forum or contact Arnold Venter at Mitsitech in Alberton - very experienced.

Thanks, will do
Re: Pajero Sport 3.2 D-ID
Hi Michael
I forgot to ask about your remark "...expensive exercise" in connection with timingchain.
Expensive when checking or replacing the guide/ chain or expensive when experiencing chain failure???
I must say that prices in respect of Mitsubishi parts (dealer or not) have hardened me considerably but I do not have experiences yet with spares for the the Sport......
Shall I prepare myself ??????
Re: Pajero Sport 3.2 D-ID
If I can recall replacing my belt and tensioning the pulleys etc was about R10k to R12k

However if it goes wrong I have no doubt will be a very expensive exercise.

I don’t believe there is much difference in parts prices between the sport and its bigger brother - but spares have become the Achilles heel of Mitsubishi unfortunately - the good , the bad and the ugly...

The good - as we know it’s a very reliable brand and if you service it properly every 15k there is very little that will go wrong

The bad- spares are very expensive compared to the likes of Toyota

The ugly - no one holds spares so if you need new parts that are not part of a normal service you generally have to wait 6 weeks or longer for them to ship them in

There are a few guys on the forums who break down older models and sell spares 2nd hand but it’s the luck of the draw with this process
