Is the roof rails of the Gen3 GLS, and Gen4 GLS identical in size and the mountings on the roof? Both 5 door

The reason I am asking this question, is whether a roof rack, would fit both vehicles similarly

If I was to fit roof rails to both vehicles, would I get away with only one roof-rack between the two vehicles?

I had the same roofrack on a Gen3 and later Gen4. But it was fitted on the factory rails itself. Not sure if some changes on the brackets were required but the rack itself fitted no issues.
