Is it my imagination, or are Pajero's not as high in demand by thieves? If so, this is a good ting for Pajero owners - it seems Toyota FT/Hilux owners are hit harder?
What is your take on this - must be an advantage when considering buying a Pajero? Here in Nelspruit we see PLENTY of Pajero's from Mozambique driving around while we experiencing large amounts thefts of Toyota D4D vehicles such as the Fortuner and Hilux.

Recall seeing a list of popular highjack targets a year or so ago (source may have been Altech Netstar, not too sure though) and Mitsubishi were way down on the list. Even when factoring in higher new car sales of other Japanese and German brands, Mitsu probalby owns a disproportionately small share of the highjack market. This in itself is good news, but (as most highjacked cars gets recycled as illegitimate spares for an ageing fleet both locally and across the border) it also underlines the inherent reliablity of our chosen breed of recreational vehicle. Mitsu wins on both counts!!!
Right, I found the list, and being an ingineeer I couldn't help myself -- just had to do some analysis. From what I can see these stats are for a 34 month period from June 2006 to July 2008 and includes commercial vehicles. Scary that just under 16000 vehicles got highjacked in this period - that is equivalent to 5644 per year, 470 per month, 15 per day, or one every 38 minutes. Makes you question our dear governments crime stats, but that's another story.
You'll note Pajero is down at No. 71, with "only" 38 cars - about one per month. Compare that to some "competitors":
