3.8 V6 SWB information
Hi guys
I have traded my old 1998 3.0V6 SWB(230000km) for 2006 3.8 V6 Auto SWB(99806km). I am doing 156km every day and was amazed at my fuel consumption of 7.2km/l This is 0.2km/l less than my 3.0 and wow, all that power. Can the other 3.8 owners advice me on their fuel consumptions. (I am travelling at 110 to max 120km/h) Also, anything that I need to be on the lookout for with my new toy. I still need to find a place close to Pta to test drive my new toy and would appreciate any suggestions.

Congrats!
I can see you are already hooked on the 3.8. It is a very addictive motor. I was in two minds about mine (vs the 3.2 DiD before this one), but after a long Richterveld and West Coast trip, I'm now fully sold on the V6. The N14, from Gauteng all the way to Kuruman, was packed with big trucks. And they motor - nothing under 100km/h. Man, I'll just blip the gearleaver one down and go - with a fully loaded trailer behind me. The revs start at 3000 and as it builds, and momentum and kw start working together, next thing I'll be close to 140 -150 with no effort! From Barberton to Kathu (including climbing up from the lowveld and then the traffic) the average was 12.8l/100km. From Kathu the next morning with no trafic, the average dropped to a small fraction BELOW 12l/100km. Once out of the traffic, I set the cruise to about 115km/h true speed. I was also running with 2-stroke oil in the petrol. The consumption, mentioned above, is the best I have ever achieved on this car. The daily consumption to work and back and stuff like that is normally around 15-16l/100km. Good thing I'm only 7km from my office.

Well That makes two of us!!! I just took delivery of my 2007 3.8 V6 SWB two weeks ago. I had been driving a 2007 Toyota Fortuner 4lt V6 for about a year and after a few scary moments on both gravel and Tar, I decided "I Love Life" and got rid of it. I have had no less than 4 previous Raiders, and can only warn any prospective Fortuner owner " DINK BAIE BAIE MOOI !!!! Before you buy that vehicle. I am in awe with the Pajero and used to own a 1997 3.5 LWB some years ago. Well all I can say is viva le difference so far. The "On road" road holding in wet & dry is far superior to the Fortuner and I will be taking it to Richters in a few month time and I will comment on that excursion.

Welcome back to the Pajero family.

I see you have a Richtersveld trip in a few months. I have just returned from there and found that the fuel consumption in the Richtersveld was 5 litres per hour. I had 20l petrol in a jerrycan and couldn't get it all in at Richtersberg. We removed the back seats and found that it adds a huge volume of loading space.

Hi guys

I've also converted from Fort V6 to Pajero,all I can say is that Pajero will kick a Forts a$$ anytime :mrgreen:

If any mention is made of the Fort on the other side,it's miconstrued as brand bashing,although the reality is otherwise.

Not to highjack the thread,just info requested:

What's a better jack than standard?
Can replacing shocks on my Lwb reduce body roll and soften ride??
Any thoughts on a longrange tank,or are a few jerry cans better?

The cruise control works better by pressing in rapid succession as compared to holding it down,which always results in kickdown,and when pressing rapidly,just increases speed steadily,as if gently flooring it.

Cas,

Less body roll and softer ride is mutually exclusive. I think you have to accept that any 4x4 SUV is a topheavy beast. Some are just more stable than others.

The jack issues can be summarised:
1)Jack too tall to fit under car with a totally flat tyre
2)Lift is too short to get the tyre completely off the ground

I prefer to carry an extra hydraulic jack (with the other "standard" emergency stuff) under the boot. The last time I needed to use a jack, the standard Pajero jack did the job perfectly. The car (2003 DiD LWB) was fully loaded and it was on the dirt road from Aus to Solitaire. The extra jack is there, and like all the other stuff in the emergency bag, will I be quite happy if I never need it.

I agree with the short bursts on the acc. button to avoid kick-down. Another option is to just select tiptronic 5th and then keep the acc. button going to new required speed.

I hope we keep enjoying our fuel guzzlers!

Hi Roelf it will be Richters in September and Kruger in March next year. I see you are from Bareberton, Well I always go to Kruger via Badplaas one of South Africa's most spectacular areas and will be sure to invite you for a dop when we are there. Thanks for the message.
