Jerry cans
Right lets get the brains working on a Wednesday.

I am looking at manufacturing/modifyin a bracket for a jerry can to fit either on above the spare wheel on the back door bracket.

Any body done something like this before, or anybody with a better idea apart from a roof rack and putting it inside.. I know it won't leak and so on, SWAMBO just don't want it inside... so HAVE to obey.

I think fitting a bracket similar to the high lift jack's one should work. Or just making up a plate that will bolt to the back of the spare wheel braket and bending around and to the top of it should also work. Will the bracket carry the extra 25 odd kilo's???

Ask one of the guys to carry it for you... easier that way

Hi Kai

But but but, what if there's no one with me.
Re: Jerry cans
I would be worried about the forces on the door, rather than the bracket.
A 25kg weight can exert a massive load when you go through a hole or across a bump etc.
The problem is not only the weight, but the moment (leverage) due to the fact that the weight will be so far from the door hinge.

Have you considered a bracket that sits on the tow bar and is just supported by something on the spare wheel (just to prevent it from falling over)?

The support at the spare wheel can even be a rathet strap.

The obvious disadvantage is that you will have to remove it when opening the rear door.

If it is carried inside, then strap it down very securely. A full jerry can, in a roll over, can be lethal!

Re: Jerry cans
that's why i thought of doing it on top of the spare. it would help with some support...
