Gen 4 advice required with add-ons
I am considering installing a Frontrunner or other drawer system in my 2008 SWB. I require advice on what is possible as I would like to fit 4 Wolfpacks (if possible with high lids) after removing the rear seats. I also require a slide for the Weaco 50 litre freezer. I would also like to carry about 50 litres of drinking water and some more for washing if possible.

On the outside I would like to fit a roof rack for the following:
1. 2,4 x,2,4m Turbo tent.
2. 2 x 50mm folding matresses
3. 2 x Folding chairs
4. 1 x Folding table size 600 x 600 x 60mm folded
5. 2 x Diesel jerry cans
6. An extra spare wheel

I would like to fit items 1 - 4 above into a canvas bag. The 1,8 x 1,2m roof rack just seems a bit small. The extra spare wheel is a problem as it is about 750mm diameter.

I would like to hear about other Gen 3 and 4 owners who did similar installations and will appreciate advice very much.
Re: Gen 4 advice required with add-ons
I've designed and built a racking system myself using 9mm plywood. It accommodates 4 wolfpacks with the rear seats removed, plus it provides a fixed possition for a fridge behind the passenger seat. Access to the fridge is simply by rolling forward the passenger seat. No slide required. Must say the four wolfpacks fits very tightly between the two wheel arches inside. I've used one base to level the floor and one top to load other stuff onto. In between i also used plywood on its side to support the top shelve from the bottom base.I have covered the plywood with normal floor carpeting. For me it works fine. The boxes slide well on the board and with the tight fit and friction it cannot move around. It didn't cost me an arm and a leg.

I see you want to do a whole lotta things which is going to cost you a whole lotta moola. Been there - and still there as well  Do a careful cost analysis first. maybe - for what you are looking at a 4x4 trailer might just be cheaper and more safe - loading so much stuff on your roof is never a good idea. But if you have to: start off by removing the OEM rails and replace them with FF runner rains. The prescribed RR is 1.78 i think - which leaves you with very little space for the other things you wanna add. Inside - you must remove the back seats if you want to fit 4 wolfpacks and a fridge - doing so takes a few minutes but make suure you plugg the holes otherwise you can get water ingress. I also built a simple plywood setup with sliders - works llike a charm - even with my 55l fridge. You can also custom it so that you are comfortable with its height when you reverse and cover everything from prying eyes. Look if you are not seriously going offroad and just normal overland - invest in a trailer (anything from 25000k and slightly below) with offer you lots of space and little extra weight. If you decide to go on with just the SWB keep us posted because i will be very interested myself in your progress - and if you permit - copy from your experiences

Re: Gen 4 advice required with add-ons
Thanks for the suggestions. I have decided a long time ago that I do not want a trailer.

I have had a 4 x wolfpack Frontrunner system installed. Two wolfpacks two high with the narrow part of the wolfpacks from left to right. On the right hand side I had the fridge slide installed with a wood cover over. It works quite well and I can load other baggage on top of the cover. Behind the seats there is also still space for cool bags, and smaller baggage items. The fridge slide is also bigger than the fridge and baggage can also be placed on it next to the fridge.

I still need advice on how to tie down the loose baggage on top of the drawer system. The fitter of the system recommends straps with ratchets but it seems cumbersome to use. I am thinking about a cargo net or the elastics with hooks. Still unsure and will appreciate advice from somebody with experience.

On the roof rack there is enough space for my tent, 60 liter plastic fuel tank, gas stove and bedding. Unfortunately no space for another spare wheel.

Just wondering if you installed a roof rack already? If so, I assume you installed a complete one directly to the roof (not using the existing load bars?). Do you have any pics of your setup?
