Getting the best out of my V6
HI Guys

My V6 has about 23k km on the clock, fairly new and quite stiff, methinks it was a demo ;)

I need to know if fitting a stainless steel exhaust will improve the efficiency of the motor, OR, how would I get maximum efficiency out of my beast (I look for an excuse to take it out more than once a week, wife thinks I got a skelm, does not believe I just want to drive the Paj

A long range tank?? Any wise words?

I've got a neat compressor, anyone mounted one in the engine bay? Is it worth it?

Anything else that I can benefit from on the Gen 4 side??

My first Paj,hopefully will last longer than I will!

Thanks in advance!

Hey Cas

I got a Gen 2 V6 with a stainless steel free flow exhaust. I have also been doing some reading about getting the best from the vehicle re fuel consumption etc. From what i gather fiddling with the exhaust will give you more power at high revs bit apparently the diameter of the exhaust can be quite important in terms of giving more power at lower revs.

Try looking around the forum, there has been some threads on exhausts and performance. there is also alot on the aussie forums about exhausts and performance.

At the very least the sound of the V6 will sound even better :D

Hi Guys
This is my first post here,so HI to everyone.

Use to petrol, but this baby runs
At 140,i got about 10km/l. At 160, 6km/l
Is this normal?

In any case, if economy (efficiency) was important, you should not have gone from TD to V6! ;) :D

Thanks

Will look into it.

Problem is the Cat,sensor needs to be refitted, can be done,I'm just scared it doesn't work, not willing to experiment.

I'd love more power,it can always be used friutfully

How much power is enough?

Seriously, I have a 3.5 V6 which can accelarate a quickly as is safe in normal road conditions and reach a very comfortable 160 km/h without even trying. Problem is a 2T vehicle at 160 km/h has the same kinetic energy as a small car doing over 250 ... stopping that safely is a major concern. If you need more power to improve towing performance, etc. it is all good and well - go for it. But remember the Pajero is an SUV and not a sports car. Don't get confused by the Mitsu marketeers that would have us believe the contrary on the back of a series of Paris Dakar wins.

Read in the papers again this morning of a little girl who lost her entire family in an accident on the N1 between Beaufort and Three Sisters ... just not worth it!

Don't get me wrong, I love speed too. But for that purpose I have a little Lotus 7 to play on the track under safe, controlled conditons, away from the other lunatics we share our roads with ... As for the Pajero, it is more than capable cruising at speeds well in excess of the legal limit even in standard trim, but the best moments are crawling up an impossible incline in "low range, low gear, diff lock" mode ....

That should be an easy question for you to answer seeing as you also play with flat & fast toys.
"Too much power is just enough"

On a serious note, I can see the need for more power, not just the low down torque that one gets from a diesel but in the upper ranges like that of a racer, it would seem as if there is a need for more of both worlds, torque and kw. More power would allow one to crawl in low range over the obstacles with greater ease and in the higher range it would assist in overtaking safely with the biggest advantage of using less fuel.

If one has more oomf you don't need to step so hard and long on the loud pedal to overtake and reach cruising speed resulting in less fuel being used, I have seen this in all of my little project toys that I have had so far. I have a 2l that does anything between 17 -19 km /l if driven decently but in the same breath will do 286km/h at the end of a 600m run.

To answer Cas's question, I would not fiddle with your beast too much. Changing exhausts and bolting on branches does not do much for the mitsu motor and could even upset the delicate balance between low and high end power and on this kind of vehicle, where a breakdown could leave you stranded in the bundu, compromising reliability is not something to fool about with.

As for the long range tanks I do not know of many success stories and would think twice before spending money on this. Rather fit an ARB compressor under the bonnet with the tank of a small home style compressor under the rear of the vehicle I think you would get much more return from this.

As for wise words.......OPPAS vir 'n skelmpie

Thanks guys

I do have have a beemer for those times "as my bloed juk" ;)

4E,nice to see you active here, always have given a good other perpective on the other side  this is my first petrol, diesel was just to see, deep down I didn't like the fumes ;)

Speed is great, the Paj handles much much better than my Fort at 160,no doubt, only thing is,motor is stiff.

I know it's only got a few km's,but how do I loosen it up nicely? I used to hammer the cr@p out of my previous cars, seemed to open nicely, but this auto doesn't allow the freedom to redline at will,it shifts before I do? Not sure how to stretch those powerful legs?

Ps,I AM a boy racer,and I know there's a place and time for everything,and my Paj is not a streetrod :P

The sound has earned some respect for the boys at Mitsu!

Almost forgot, the head lights are brilliant,I've never had lights so good, but,as human nature goes,I want to change the inner globes to Hella cool blue,so it looks lekker also

Has anyone tried better globes?
