I would think that this soot would have no negative performance effect but will probably make for a slightly smokier exhaust. In fact I think if the EGR is totally blocked off it will actually increase performance at the cost of a more smokie emmision. The EGR only reburn some of your old exhaust gasses to make it cleaner before going out. Anyway that is my understanding of it all. I was just curious as to why you wanted to clean it as my EGT probe goes into the manifold at the EGR part of it and I also noticed some sooty build up there when removing the probe. The soot has always worried me as I reckon that the soot must also build up in the exhaust? My exhaust is still the factory original and I am now standing on 220 000km so there is surely some blockage in there?

Anyway, they say don't scratch where it doesn't itch so I must probably leave it be.
By the way my intercooler has also got a knock somewhere in its life and has the bottom part bend up slightly, but at R5000 for a new one I am living with it as I believe, in my case, it is more cosmetic than performance robbing.
