Packing system for a LWB
I have been looking around at what is available and have decided against buying someone elses expensive goods. I am a long way from finished, but the idea is once I am back in SA, I will:
put on a thicker board,
cover with carpet,
add an area to relocate the dual battery wiring too,
add an inverter,
see if I can add a water tank between the board and rear seats (at the moment chairs fit in nice:))
add a fridge slider

And all that before August when we are hitting the road to Namibia for four weeks

Re: Packing system for a LWB
OK, spent a couple of hours in my workshop over the last few nights.

I changed the frame, cut and fitted a larger 19mm plywood plank on top, added some braces on the rear of the frame, added a plate to bring the electrical connection to the back, added a 50L water tank and covered the lot with a carpet:)

Here some pics, though from a cell phone. Will post normal camera pics tomorrow.

Still have to get a fridge slide (on the right) and a couple of tie down points.... then I'm good to go:)

Welcome to the DIY club. At one stage I thought I was stupid for designing and building my own equipment! It seems like everybody else were/are buying stuff off the shelf. At least when I design and build I get what I want and not something that somebody else with maybe some experience?? designed. I must add that all my DIY equipment are first issues with no problems thusfar.

I will be trying the DIY thing for a battery box in the rear storage bay.

What thickness do you recommend and what type of wood? Plywood? 17mm? Note that it will only hold a battery, and I wil be building in the connectors for the electrics... Maybe only 10mm needed?
