Brake shudder
I have a 2003 DID (247 000 Km) and had brakes that would have a jerking action whilst slowing down. I replaced the front with a powerbrake converion and great until ... Now I have a shudder when applying brakes between 100-80 kph and I am not sure now. The Pajero's stopping power has improved though. Do you think I should check the rear brakes or shocks.

Did you just change pads or disks as well?

The cause of the vibration is most probably the rear discs, I would say.

Hi,

Please let us know if you find the problem... I think there are several people on this forum who are interested in changing to the Power Brake setup, and we'd like to know if it works well.

Had the same problem with my Gen 3. The stealers wanted to change all four discs and pads. I went to a brake speacialist in Edenvale. The guy there said that the Paj rear discs are normally the culprit. He skimmed the rear discs R340.00 and my paj is sweet again. I guess it must be your rear disc too seeing has you have replaced the fronts already.

Wilddog, how many km have you done since skimming the discs? I am interested to learn whether skimming the discs proved to be a permanent cure for the shuddering. Conventional wisdom has it that it is better to replace the discs rather than skim them, because the shudder seems to return quite soon on skimmed discs.

Thank you for the imput. I am very pleased with the discs and pads. They come in a matched set. I am going to replace the rears and will let you guy's know the outcome.

P.S. I do find the pads in the set very hard, so maybe put a set of OEM soft pads on. The wife is heavy on the brakes., do not tell her though.LOL

Done 400km now since the skim and still fine. I think you have to be gentle with discs when they have been skimmed i.e extend your braking distance so as to heat the disc's slowly rather than abrubptly. I will let you know if the shudder returns.

I have had the same brake binding effect for yonks now. Have tried many things such as replacing the front rotor and disk pads as a pair... twice since I've kept believing it was my front brakes causing it. Only problem was I fitted an aftermarket rotor which I also believe was not up to spec. Very glad to see someone has resolved the problem. You mentioned a matched rotor / pad set that you fitted. Where does one get these quality rotor / pad sets other than the agents who charge a fortune?

Hi all.

I don't have brake shudder and braking is fairly good. Only thing I experience on the back brakes is a noise after pulling out of the driveway and for short period after driving. Noise is difficult to describe but its loud ans seems like hydraulic pressure valve struggling to release (might also be back brakes catching). As soon as I tap the brakes it stops and starts again after releasing. As I say its only intermitently after she stood overnight for example and disappears quickly after driving. Anyone else with this? Will bleeding help? Is there a level of pressure on the brakes that needs to build up first?
