Try driving the West Coast Eco trail!!! These alternate corrugations are huge! I believe this is a result of the TC and just gets worse as the TC's have to start working harder. But it does make these roads downright dangerous.greypaj wrote: (Question for the Forum at Large)
I noticed when I was in Magadigadi last month that the sand ruts seemed to have changed from having equal corregations to more emphasized alternate corregation on each track. Is this being caused by TC application in the newer vehicles? It does make for an uncomfortable ride in some areas

Simon,
We must be on the verge of drifting off topic, BUT
I think you are mistaken.
When I traveled on those roads I was wondering if maybe the T/C was kicking in when/if the wheels lose traction over the corrugation. I then stopped to feel if the brakes were hot, NOTHING…. Ice cold! That makes sense, because we know that the T/C only activates after quite a bit of “free” rotation.
I still believe that hard tyres and two-wheel drive creates and worsens the corrugations. The science and dynamics of the various forms of corrugation will be very interesting and maybe somebody here will help us out.

My apologies Simon and Roelf for taking the focus off the great solid axle independent and TC Diff lock debate but the question seemed appropriate at the time. I like Roelf's thought have having a more focused look at this issue of deteriating corregations in some of our great trail areas.
Simon - with you minipulative powers can you move my question together with your response and Roelf's response to a new agenda point in order for us not to loose the value of the challenge of having a greater understanding of what creates deteriating corregations and how can our 4x4 public contribute to improving the situation.
May the solid axle / independent suspension debate continue!!!!! I would like to see more reaction / debate to choosing your vehicle according to purpose required.
Remember the key board is never wrong - 4x4 = Shift $X$. Dont spend more than you have to!!
