Hopefully I'm taking delivery of my Pajero today. It's a 2006 model 3.2DiD GLX with 85000km on the clock.

Q1. What type of mineral oil is used in the Pajero, and what synthetic oil is recommended??

Q2. I would like to have speedo cruise installed, what type is recommended? I assume the Pajero has a drive by wire throttle.

Q3. At what odo reading should the timing chain be checked/replaced??

We hope you get delivery and that you will have many safe and trouble free miles ahead of you. Welcome to our little community.

1)It seems that the oil most preferred by people on the various forums is Caltex Delo 400

2)Speedo cruise is (I think) the way to go on a nice car like the Pajero. I have no advice to offer on which type to go for, but I'm sure the experts will start chipping in soon enough.

3)Once again, from what I read on the forums, it seems that 150k is a good time to check the chain as well as the tentioner/guide. The experts will show up soon enough and help us out with this item as well.

Hi superairborne, congrats on your Pajero, I hope you enjoy it as I do mine. Your model and km's sound good.

Q1: I was advised to use Caltex Delo 400 or Mobil Delvac MX. They cost about twice as much as standard oil, but are apparently pretty good.

Q2: I would like to install one myself.

Q3: No idea on the Gen 3 3.2 DID. Have a look in your Owner's Manual/Service book for the schedule. If you don't have one, search the forum - there are services schedules available.

I do not recall the timing chain as a service item on the schedule.
It will most likely last as long as the rest of your engine, which is forever.

Agreed, but you do have to check the tensioner / guide every ±100000km.

I checked the service schedule and yes, it is not on there, neither the tensioners.

I got my Paj about 3 hours ago! Now isn't she great! However, she has to go back to the service centre tomorrow for the airbag warning light that has come on. Probably due to some rough vacuuming under the front seats that dislodged the pretentioner plugs or the alarm system that was installed yesterday!

One more questions: How long, on average, do the original factory fitted shock absorbers last??

I replaced mine around 120,000km about two months ago, but they could have gone further, although I don' know how much further.

I had some strange wear pattern on my front wheels and mostly everybody suggested that it was shocks. After getting some advice from the experts and chatting to Mr. Goggle, I realized that it was not the shocks, but lack of regular rotation in stead.

Sorry to be a bother, but I have even another question: Should I let the engine idle before shutting down to allow cooling and lubrication of the turbo, or does the Paj not require that?? I can't find anything on that in the manual.

ps. I've just found out I have another year of the Maintenance Plan on the Paj. Great bonus as I was not aware of this at the time of the sale.

They can easily last 150000 km +, but this is TOTALLY dependent on use - the rougher, the quicker they will perish.
