Gen 3 DiD LWB A/T: Fuel Consumption Stats over 130k km
I just looked through the data in the spreadsheet that I try to maintain on the fuel use of our 2003 Gen 3 DiD LWB A/T. The car has run with an Ironman suspension for most of its life in our hands. It also had a Frontrunner full length roof rack on for a long time and Frontrunner load bars after the rack had been transferred to the Patrol.

Most of the time the Paj is our family vehicle and mom's taxi. It does a commuting haul every day, but we have used it very frequently on family trips, often towing some form of anchor.

The data in my spreadsheet is unfortunately not 100% complete (the car is my dear wife's daily driver and she often forgets to record the mileage when she refuels), but does contain the data from more than 190 refueling stops. The amount of money that the car has drank since 2006 when she became ours, is quite scary :) .

Over the just more than 130000 km that we have owned the Paj, the fuel consumption has averaged 10.62 l/100km (i.e. fuel economy averages 9.41 km/l). The absolute worst was 18.37 l/100km (i.e. 5.44 km/l) while tugging our fully loaded Conqueror Conquest around the Eastern Cape. The all time best was 8.32 l/100km (i.e. 12.02 km/l).

The Gen 3 DiD remains a fabulous machine.

Yes, despite its age, it is still top of the pile!

I wish I could get such figures in my DiD SWB.

Done around 10000km now, average around 12,5 l/100, best around 11, worst 13,1. Always using 50ppm.

The one aspect ive really been disappointed in. I do have slightly oversize BFGs - and this may account for part of the problem.

The figures you have are more like what they claim. Still an awesome car though!

If I can get 13.75 (city driving) out of my gen 2 SWB I am a happy camper. Got new tires, new shocks, full service but but he is still as thirsty as a sailor after 2 years out at sea. And I am not even pushing him...
