puzzled about two stroke
So I've been a big fan of Two stroke in my old 3.5V6 cause she did not have a cat converter. And I heard the the difference it made to my lifters.

Now my 3.8 2004 has never had two stroke up her nozzle since about 7000km ago.
My questions and the reason I am asking them are as follows.

She was using oil(not leaking like my defender but using) about a pint every 1500m or so. (149000km on the clock)
Now 7000km ago I decided to bugger this and that I'll be shooting some two-stroke up her nozzle. Now I topped up about 100ml of oil on the second tank and never since. Could the two stroke have something to with this?? could it have lubricated valve stems or something else that could have been letting the oil through.

next question, travelling at 120km/h I can definitely see a 1km/l improvement!!!

Now if this is two stroke related, how bad is it for continued use with my cat???

Andre,

I am confused.... How does the 2-stroke affect the lifters, as they are not exposed to the fuel (and additives)?

I also fail to see how 2stroke oil can influence the lifters but I have a sneaky suspicion that the clean burning properties of 2 stroke may be good for the cat

Then again I may be wrong as I'm no expert!

Hi Guys, When you say lifters are you not refering to the valve stems and seals perhaps? A possible cause for you lighter consumption could be that your engine management is leaning out the mixture in order to burn the oil off your cat which is now contaminated! obviously the more lean the mixture becomes, the more oxygen, the higher the temperature in the combustion chamber and exhaust. The engine management does normally introduce rich and lean burn stratergies to maintain the condition of the cat.

Just a thought.

Re: puzzled about two stroke
a leaner mixture in a diesel burns cooler. An overly rich mixture in a diesel burns hotter and will pack on the deposits.

I have witnessed lower egt's while running 2-stroke in the oil whereas injector cleaner raises egt (as per 4ePajero's Di-D)
