I presume you do it once in a while, and not with EVERY tank of petrol?

The Valve ease went with every tank - gets expensive on the long run.

Makes sense to get some lubricant into the injectors and valves. I recon on a full tank it will not cause too much smoke, nor any root buildup inside?

Yes only once in a while and only on full tanks of petrol

hi guys, the jerk turned out to be coils/coil lead after all (so much for the mechanic testing it!)
the car is now running very nicely except for the fact that its using oil one mechanic has said valve stem seals another has said engine rebuild. i now need to know:
-engine rebuild or replace with an import?
-who (besides SAC) would be a good option to do the job

as always, the help is much appreciated!

Valve stem seals.

Any good competent workshop (I associate SAC with modifications / tune ups).
It's not a difficult repair.

If you can wield spanners, you could do the stripping / assembling yourself.

Test for oil usage through wear vs valve stem seals are in the volume oil used, and the smoke pattern. If you use a lot of oil (say 1 litre per tank of petrol), and you always have smoke from the exhaust, it may very well need a rebuild. In that case it is likely that your compression rings wil also be worn - therefore a simple compression test should show you whether the engine is shot or not.

On Pajero's it is more likely that it is valve stem seals - these are relatively easy to replace (as Gerhard pointed out). The test is to drive, accellerate downhill, lift your foot off the petrol for 2-3 seconds, and then accellerate again. A smoke puff indicates valve stem seals.

Hope it is the latter...

How many km do you have on the car? The 3.5 can give you way more than 300000 before it needs work on the bottom (rebuild). Uless you overheated it at some stage - that will change everything.
