@WillieV
@OOMPIE
Could each of you tell us what rear diff oil you are using please?

Hello Oompie.
Still waiting for confirmation, but according to above comments the origin could be the damper rubber. I am going to remove mine and see what happens.

Andrew, I use Castrol EPX 80W90 in the front and rear differentials and Castrol BOT 130M 75W90 in the transfer case.
Together with that I add a 10% to the volume Prolong Anti Friction Metal Treatment to the oil.
Engine runs on Prolong 15w40 Diesel oil and auto box on Prolong ATF.
Regards

Thanks WillieV.
The reason that I asked is that I tried using the correct grade but synthetic (Castrol Syntrans MultiV 75W90) in the rear diff and almost immediately experienced a shudder when either accelerating from rest while turning right or left (i.e. not accelerating straight ahead). Also same shudder reversing uphill even with the steering straight.
I have also seen such reports on other forums too.
I then spoke to Castrol Technical gurus and they said that they had (rarely) heard of cases like this and that they seemed to attribute it to a mismatch of diff vs. their "sticktion" additives.
I will shortly go back to plain Castrol EPX 80W-90 and see if the shudder remains or not.
I suspect that these diffs may be quite sensitive to friction modifiers etc, even though mine is not a LSD. So it could just be the additive you are using. Maybe try without.

Thanks, Andrew, but the vibration is to my opinion not related to lubrication. It did the same before I added the AFMT which I did appr. 3 jears ago.
Regards.
I still suspect the damper rubber or the rubber connection between prop shaft and rear diff, however, I will only know in time to come if the problem is solved, as we do not plan any long towing trips in the near future. Will keep you guys posted.

Hi, has anybody found a cure for this shudder/vibration yet? I have the same issue.
Thanks

Had the same issue and it ended up being the rear drum brakes (Hand brake)
Seems that one side was not adjusted properly and was just touching the drum, after about 10 minutes of driving the heat would cause the shoe to expand ever so slightly and it would start catching the drum resulting in a terrible shudder, Felt like the car was going to tear itself apart. Stopping for a minute or two would often solve the problem for a few kilos.
I was convinced it was something major (diff, prop shaft etc) and was amazed when my Mechanic solved it by sanding the shoes and drums a little and adjusting them properly.
Hopefully yours is the same simple fix
