For a gen3/gen4 this is my thinking (feel free to critique) - in increasing order of cost:
1. If you want height, but no impact on ride harshness, and wont be loading heavily on trips (where the rears sags) - then spacers will work for you.
2. If you want height, but will be towing / loading heavily once or twice a year, then spacers and airbags will be best (ride harshness not impacted when airbags are deflated).
3. If you will be loading the car heavily, quite frequently, then you will need harder coils that come with these suspension upgrades (EFS, etc.)
