It is a day trip. A full day due to all the stops for admiring the beauty, taking pics and getting endless illustrated lectures on how the earth was formed

If we over-do the stopping, we may have to take a shortcut off the mountain at sunset.

Total distance is about 30-40km. Of that about 10% should be 4LLc. The rest I prefer to take with all four wheels helping and an open center diff. Most of the day will be spent in 1st and 2nd gear. No deep sand or water crossings, but plenty rock outcrops to traverse as well as loose boulders to scale. A bow-saw or two will help our cars maintain their sexy looks in the Malls afterwards.

The date has been settled and will remain (obviously barring interference from nature and/or life in general).

I'd have a heart attack if I had to wait a few months before getting my new Pajero into some open space

We are planning a sodwana trippie in September. Would also like to make a day or so stop and meet some fellow clever people. Will keep an eye on this post.

I will be in America from the 15th till 28 or 29 Sept so I reckon my planned joining won't happen. We only heard today that our trip has been extented by a few days due to business reasons
You guys go ahead and enjoy maybe some day there will be another event to participate in.

Roelf thanks I will defenitely do that. Ja well my trip has now been shifted again from 18 Sept to 02 Oct. At least I will spend a few days in New York exploring as well.

Could you give me an indication if you want me to enter into preliminary negotiations with Mark at Diggers Retreat around arrangements for the weekend. There is an option of camping or roomed accommodation.
