Diff/Propshaft/Transfercase problem 3.2did

With regard to al the psots on diff shudder en noises on 3.2did's here is my problem again.

Does anybody know how to remove the propshaft? The manual is not very clear.

I think the shudder is not from the diff. Is their a coupling between the transfer case and the propshaft?

Any help/advise/photo's/ would be appreciated on how the transfercase/propshaft/difflocks etc funtion would be appreciated

ASA gives these two images. As far as I remember it is pretty easy to remove a propshaft. It just bolts to the transfer and the rear diff with a few bolts on each side.

Thanks for the picture and other info.

My problem is however not a vibration but a shudder. It initially felt like a worn crownwheel and pinion, but I am not sure that it is on the diff.
1. Is there anything on the propshaft (yokes, etc?) that can wear and cause the shudder, giving a feeling like gears that are not meshing correctly?

Any ideas?

2. Where is the centre difflock situated and how does it function?

The main causes for shudder on the di-d is a bad dmf on the manual gearbox and bad oil or wrong oil ion the autobox.

Ok I had oil the oils (diff,geabox, etc) replaced about 500km ago - the problem started soon after this. They used normal ATF and 80w90. What would the correct spec be?

the manual transmission requires gl-4 spec in the gearbox and transfer case.

The automatic transmission requires SP II or SP III spec oil. I recently flushed mine and the dealer was the cheapest at about R240 per 4 liter container. (Dia Queen) - you will need about 12 liters for a full flush.

The diffs usually require gl-5 spec oil with the friction plate style LSD requiring the added friction modifier at R56 from the dealer.

Note that the Gen 3 does not use friction plate lsds; the locking rear diff (if so equipped) is a gear type (Torsen) lsd that can also be locked, so no friction modifier is required.

I SOLVED THE PROBLEM...

After months of going from here to there trying to diagnose it WAS indeed in the end due to the wrong diff oil. PLEASE note that no matte what anybody says "normal" diff oil will not work on the Pajero. Safe yourself a lot of trouble and buy the CORRECT Mitsubishi LSD diff oil from Mitsu - you need about 2 liters @ R150! Do not add any additives.

Llewellynn your 2001 DiD would have exactly the same lockable Torsen rear diff as my 2003 model (if it is SA spec). This diff does not use LSD oil, as it is not a friction plate type LSD. This is confirmed by the workshop manual. I have replaced the diff oils at the intervals prescribed and have used oil of the correct grade (as per the manual), never LSD oil. I have never had issues with the diff making funny noises either.

I believe your issue and sollution to be unrelated to LSD oil. What fluids did you change in order to solve your problem?

all the mitsu diffs require gl-5 spec oils. Just the gen2 LSD require a mitsu additive obtainable from the dealer for about R60.
