I picked up a shudder under moderate to heavy braking emanating from the rear of my Paj, and so I had a look at my discs, vernier said they were at 19.4mm, min was 20.4mm so I decided to buy new discs. Found some (after a lengthy search) at suburban spares in Maitland for R 690.00 for the pair of Febi(Bilstein) made in Germany, not too bad I thought.

When I removed the old discs, I found that the slider pins had seized on the left rear wheel. After much swearing I managed to free the pin and cleaned the up with a wire brush, and greased with normal gear grease I had lying in the garage, is this the correct stuff to use?

Braking is MUUUCH better now and that irritating squeal has disappeared too.

my gen3 also had a shudder every now and again but under hard braking it was smooth.

my driveway is 4km dirt so the slider pins got jammed up every so often. A strip, clean and regrease sorted it out.

I read somewhere that there is a special brake grease to use on the slide, as the normal bearing grease will boil away due to the high temperatures generated during braking?? Smelt somehting hot after stopping at work this morning

My understanding has always been to use hi-temp lube on brake components, and I therefore have a tin of "copperslip" that I've used on all things brake-related for the last 10 years or so.

I also am a firm believer in copperslip, I use it on all my bolts, nuts odd's and ends when I strip my brakes(or anything for that matter - it make life so much easier when you have to take it apart again...), but I read somewhere on a yank forum the copperslip turns to glue on the brake caliper slides?? I will ask midas if they sell a high temp grease specifically for the slides.

I have used copperslip on turbo and exhaust manifold bolts and they loosened a few months later with ease.

The copperslip may dry up and become gooish but i bet its still more slippery than a rusted connection.

Re the slider pins, if you use Copperease beware its fine for anti seize but NOT for use in the slider pins it will dry out and then clog the slider pins. In addition there is also a chance it will "swell" the bellows and rubber tips on the bottom slider pins thus creating more drag.
The best grease to use is a Red Rubber Grease, this is used in brake caliper re builds and for use in the type of slider pin operation we have on opur trucks. It will not seize, will not wash out and is safe with rubber.
