I recently bought my SWB 97 3,0 V6 manual. I notice the vehicle making a whining noise - I suspect to come from the gearbox - at very low speed in second when you apply sudden torque, as you start to accelerate. This noise is the same through all the ranges - 2H - 4Llc. Also a slight whine in fifth all the way up to around 120km/h when I guess the ambient noise overrides it(This test off course done in 2H

). Otherwise the gearshift through all the gears are smooth, and also so for shifting into 4H and further down. Do you guys think this might be low or old fluids, or do I have a genuine transmission problem here?
Thanks in advance
S-Rogers,
Mine also has a bit of a whine at low revs on all gears,
except fourth.
My machanic said is is probably a bit of roughness of one of the gears in the gearbox, and is not fatal - will need to redo the box one day when the engine goes or if the noise levels increases drastically. The fact that 4th gear is quiet is important - because that gear is direct (1:1) - the others gear up or down - and that is when they pick up the "rough" gear. If your's is quiet in fourth, I would suggest you may have the same issue.
Obviously an opinion from a specialist is needed, but beware of a greedy one - it CAN be fixed, but the question is whether it NEED to be fixed...
