Re: Air Suspension Gen 3 Installation
Well, I managed to get the air bags installed this afternoon, but removing the coil spring. It wasn't too much trouble.

However, even at 0.5 bar, I am getting about 20mm lift at the rear. That doesn't sound right. And, the air bags are deformed - they are kinked.

I'm pretty sure that the air bags are too long (combination of spacers + bag) - I'm going to confirm with the Air Spring Company in Jet Park tomorrow, and the local supplier - Gremeltech.

The combination of spacers and bag = 270mm. The opening from lower to upper spring perch was about 230mm.

Attached are some photos of the kinked / deformed bags.

Re: Air Suspension Gen 3 Installation
Hi

Thanks a million for the feedback.
I spent 2 hours Fri. on trying to get the coils out and gave up in the end. Straps did not do the job...
I would have bought a coil compressor tool, but now this excellent tip will save me some. :D

Thanks again!
Re: Air Suspension Gen 3 Installation
Greg,

IMHO you need the same part number as mine, and that is CS-0038. After installation and before any inflation my airbags were perfectly shaped and filled the entire inside of the coil.

Its a pitty that you have so much trouble with the installation. I probably did not spent as much as an hour and a half before it was all done. Tubes fixed the lot. But you will get there, dont worry. You now have enough info and experience to tackle your supplier and get the right stuff. Start with Jet Park though.

Re: Air Suspension Gen 3 Installation
Well, after speaking to the guys in Jet Park, they confirmed that they have had issues with some late model Gen 3 Pajeros - I think the facelift version with 17" rims (like mine).

A shorter air bag is required - they have a kit that is a total of 240mm long (bags + spacers).

Also, their top spacer is about 35mm for all Pajero kits - this allows the spacer to be inserted without removing the coil.

I spoke to Gremeltech, here in the Cape. They haven't had this problem yet, but offered to swop the air bag with a shorter one. This will give a total height of 245mm - I think the extra 5mm compared to the kit from Jet Park shouldn't be a problem.

Lets hope that this solves the problem!

So, if anyone is installing a lit on a late model CK (Gen 3) Pajero... I would suggest that you take a measurement before ordering!

Cheers

Re: Air Suspension Gen 3 Installation
I fitted slightly shorter air bags, and everything seems fine :)

I used the setup on my trip this last 2 weeks (fully loaded) and it helped a lot! :)

Thanks for all of the help.

Re: Air Suspension Gen 3 Installation
So this is how tight the room is for the air suspension. I never knew that this mechanism can be used in a Pajero.
