I have heard that the Gen 2.5 came out with a rear diff lock. Is this correct??
If it is correct. Is there a way of implementing the later into my Gen 2 ?
If there is a way, how would it be engaged?

I have a Gen 2.5 and mine does have a rear diff lock which is engaged with a "moffie" switch (I found that description somewhere on this site)
As to fitting it to your Gen 2, I leave to the experts to comment

I can get hold of a rear diff and other interesting parts from the chassis if I need any. So any help regarding this would be much appreciated.

Yes, you can retrofit. As far as I know, your 1997 model has all the wiring to allow a plug & play installation if you get the rear axle off a Blister Fender with diff lock as well as the little diff lock air compressor, which lives in the little compartment under the right hand rear seat, and of course the diff lock switch that goes on the center console of the dashboard.
Just be sure to get an axle with the correct final drive ratio or you will have to swop the ring and pinion, which becomes a bit more of a mission.
The Pajero's diff lock is actuated by air pressure, generated by the little compressor.

I suspect the "moffieknoppie" concept was invented by owners of so-called serious 4x4s, with solid axles, but no axle diff locks, to explain away the fact that a 4x4 with independent front suspension managed to go up an incline with axle twisters where they could not...AndreBenson wrote:I'll take the moffie knoppie any day.

Your list is correct, except that I think you will find all the wiring already in place in your vehicle. Just pay careful attention to where everything was plugged in on the donor vehicle.AndreBenson wrote:So what would I need from this oak.

I think you will even find that the little orange rear diff lock indicator on the dash will work when you have retrofitted the diff lock.

Does R12000 for the rear axle and compressor sound expensive??

You could fit a new front difflock for less than that. Simon did some research on it. At the local breaker they want R5k for the rear axle so I reckon R12k is a bit much
