Re: 3.2 Did Autobox v5A51 strip
Thanks Nick
Yes I have the 142page Overhaul Manual (apparently there is a 700 page version as well...)
I am taking the plunge on Monday to buy a second hand box from a low mileage 3.8. I am just worried because some-one said the valve bodies from the NM and NP models differ.. Maybe they just did an upgrade.. as long as ratios and electronics is the same I trust it will work! And as you said I can't find any evidence of different ratio's on the boxes.

I found one (actually complete vehicle service manual) on the forum under the downloads section, its for the American Mitsubishi Montero(same as Pajero), but AFAIK it has the identical box that we have in our vehicles - v5A51 INVECS II. I am also pretty certain that the only the diff ratio's are changed for the DiD and V6 petrol models, for contruction simplicity. Here are my V6 compared to the DiD drive ratio;s in the box
3.2 did : 3.5v6
1st 3.789 : 3.789
2nd 2.057 : 2.057
3rd 1.421 : 1.421
4th 1 : 1
5th 0.731 : 0.731

So it looks like the boxes are identical....

llec999,

Respect!

Not sure if this helps any but there seem to be many iterations of that gearbox: (and I suspect that the following is not a complete list). Source: 5 SPEED MITSUBISHI PAJERO & TRITON CONVERTER LOCK UP SHUDDER

MODEL: TRANSMISSION I.D: CONVERTER I.D.:
NM/NP PAJERO V5A51-7-SB C2
NM/NP PAJERO V5A51-7-AB RE
NM/NP PAJERO V5A51-7-AA RE, RH
NM/NP PAJERO V5A51-7-HCB RF

Good luck with your rebuild / replacement.
Re: 3.2 Did Autobox v5A51 strip
Thanks for this upsetting news - seems like I have to use a box from a 3.2Did with the addition code after the -7 playing a role - not sure exactly what is the difference... I need 5vA51-7-SA or SB see here as well:

I don't have an auto and won't even think of attempting something like this, but love this most valuable post! Keep it up and thanks for the effort!

Re: 3.2 Did Autobox v5A51 strip
Friends, I am going to disappoint you all! After getting prices for spares I have decided it is not worthwhile attempting to repair this box myself. Parts alone comes to close to R7000. I went ahead and bought a second hand recon box from a supplier in PTA. This was sold to me as a 3.2DiD Box. The model number however does not correspond to the list as previously posted ont he page and thus also not with the number removed from my car.

After a very difficult and long installation ±I looked very forward to driving the Jero from the workshop this week after standing for 6 weeks. But now maybe I have made a wrong decision - I now do have Reverse but going forward the box is stuck in 3rd and doesn't shift up or down. I will have it reset with computer on Saturday and really hopes this fixes the problem.

I really do not look forward to removing the box again!

Options are running out...
